I think copyright is probably one of those issues that's kind of thrown somewhere into the curriculum for good measure, but not in a really effective way. It's just not a glamorous topic compared to conducting those cool multimeter patterns...I've...

Web 2.0 Technologies to Use in the Classroom

I have come across the following wikispaces that list some great web 2.0 technologies that can be used in the classroom with one computer or many. Some of the pages also list art technologies that can be easily adapted to the musical classroom.

Social Networking Sites

Does anyone know of any local school districts, music directors or classroom instructors that are using any of the major social networking sites, (MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Ning), to publicize, interact, connect with their students and the community? I know there are some great music education departments that are using the sites across the state/nation and was wondering if anybody as any local leads.

Copyright Issues

Since copyright is always a big issue with music educators, here is a plug for James Frankel's book "The Teacher's Guide to Music, Media, and Copyright Law". http://www.copyrightbook.net Also, check out this video about Fair Use: http://jamesfrankel.musiced.net/2009/03/21/copyright-or-copywrong-part-20/ From all the accompanying material it looks like a good book to have/peruse.

Alas, I don't have an iPhone, but I will pay you .99 just to try it...… Continue

Hey John, when you have a chance post some of your responses on the blog so everybody sees them and they can be tagged for searches. I really appreciate your contributions.

Thanks for the info . The hyperlinks don't work in your email, though. You should throw your ideas out there for public consumption. It is a great idea and I'd like to see more of what you are doing with it.

John, how are you using blogs with your classes? What kind of assignments do you make and how do the kids respond to you? I heard you use them pretty well, but I have no great ideas for what to do with them.
